Recently, the Crestmoor area has been subject to a rather substantial string of burglaries. As of this writing there have been seven burglaries since December and all during the daylight hours. The modus operandi seems to be burglars taking advantage of the fact people are not home and sneaking in through the back door or sliding glass door. What they have been snatching are the small things they can carry: jewelry, personal items, small safes, etc.
Police are not sure if the crimes are all committed by the same burglars but do acknowledge there is a pattern forming. In order to help educate people on how to protect themselves, the police are holding a community meeting at John Muir school at 7pm on Wednesday, February 17. The police have already sent out a message through the city telephone notification system.
Crestmoor residents should take steps to protect themselves. The police recommend turning on radios and lights, preferably on a timer. Avoid keeping house keys in easy to find places such as under doormats or on door frames. Neighbors who are home should take extra care to keep on the watch for strange behavior and report any possible wrongdoings to the San Bruno Police as soon as they can.
