In 1957, on the former Sneath Jersey Dairy Site, land was purchased in the western hills of San Bruno for $900 an acre. In 1964 bonds were passed for construction of Skyline Junior College campus buildings. Sklyine college, part of the SMCCCD, was schedule to open in 1969. Today Skyline college, with help from bond measures and parcel taxes, boasts new athletic fields, performing arts center, media center and cafeteria.
The Skyline President’s council is an intregral part of the community, consisting of business and education leaders to promote the college and raise money. From the President’s Council Website:
“The President’s Council includes representatives from business, industry, government, nonprofits and other organizations whose interest in a connection with Skyline College provides a strong base of knowledge and support for the President of the College. The purpose of the President’s Council is to provide community input, feedback and support for the resource development program at Skyline College.”
Each year, the President’s Council hosts a fundraising breakfast. This breakfast features keynote speakers from the college board as well as the council itself. Attendees include past students, city and county elected officials, past and present educators and business leaders from througout the county.
